WHEN TO MAKE NOTES
Toward the end of the book, as the plot thickens, the characters become more involved, and you have to pay closer attention, you should make notes. They should be concise, but they should be in your own words. I suggest that you key them to specific pages and passages, or at least specific sections of the book. You’ll be glad you did.
WRITING YOUR REACTION
Once you have finished the book and looked back over your notes, you should be able to jot down a fairly brief reaction to the book. I am asking for a single page, but it will not be graded if it is shorter than half a page, or longer than a page and a half. Please include the following in your reaction:
1. Why did you choose the book?
2. What did you like and dislike about the book?
3. What did you learn from the book?
4. What did the book make you think about?
5. Would you recommend this book to others?
6. What would you say to the author, if he or she were here?
The book is not a test. It is a chance for you to engage with the world and to share your thoughts with others. I am interested in your thoughts, so do not be afraid to be honest. I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
