sun

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, heated to incandescence by nuclear fusion reactions in its core, radiating the energy mainly as light and infrared radiation. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Compared with the billions of other stars in the universe, the  sun  is unremarkable. It holds the solar system together; provides life-giving light, heat, and energy to Earth; and generates space weather.

Along with  quantum mechanics , relativity is central to modern  physics . In particular, relativity provides the basis for understanding cosmic processes and the geometry of the  universe  itself.
